Post 4 - Project 2

Today Ms Cuttle assigned us a project that involves ranking one of three different assignments.
Here are my following ranks for each of the three categories:

1. Notebook Cart Team
2. In Depth Software Development
3. Web 2.0 Tools

I have ranked Notebook Cart Team as first for many reasons. First of all, I am very good with computer technology. I enjoy working with computer hardware and I am excellent at troubleshooting computer problems. As proven by many experiences in the past, I am also very capable of working with large groups of people.

I have ranked In Depth Software Development second because I also like working with software. I am comfortable with delivering a lesson to a class without much trouble as well. The reason for why I chose this as second rather than first is because I enjoy working with tangible things rather than electronic things.

I have ranked Web 2.0 as last because I am not as skilled at working with things on the web such as blogs and websites. I can be considered an amateur in this section. Although I can work collaboratively and I am willing to present to teachers, I beleive my skills in the blog/website sector is just not up to par performance.

And there you have it! My rankings and my reasoning for each of the ranks.

Technology in Classrooms

In my personal opinion, I prefer to use technology by doing old things in new ways.
I like doing old things in new ways because it is more productive.
Examples of old things would be assignments and essays. In the old days the assignments and essays are written and handed in using traditional methods of handwriting.
Today, we complete the assignments and essays in a different fashion that involves typing.
Typing is much faster and far more efficient.
Therefore, I really like doing new things in new ways.

Second Post

It has been almost an entire month since the first time that I had walked into room 117.
So far, I am definitely enjoying this course.
Although the lack of tests and exams play a big role in my admiration of this course, I also really like the tasks we are assigned to do.
I enjoyed setting up netbooks, and now that we have a chance to blog, I enjoy this course even more.
I have never blogged before and I have never thought about it. Now that I was forced to blog, I actually really like it.
Overall, I really like this IDC ICT course and I hope my knowledge on technologies will expand even further with this course.

First Post

Hi, this blog was created for the IDCICT course at Mackenzie.

In the past few weeks, I have worked on two assignments.
One of the assignments involved setting up netbooks.
Our school had won a contest in the past and a full class set of netbooks were given to our school for educational purposes. These netbooks came brand new and no software was installed.
This dilemma called for a team to set up the netbooks.
In the very beginning, Ms Cuttle asked the class about who has experience setting up netbooks with Windows 7. I come from a long history with setting up Windows 7 based operating systems, so I put my hand up and I was assigned a netbook.
I set up the netbook by installing all necessary software and troubleshooted when required. MAC2 was the netbook that I have completed.
I then noticed that Jina's student survey group could use a bit of help, so I headed over to help them out. I was no aware of the requirement of writing my name on the netbooks that I have set up and I gave the netbook to another student, who wrote his name on the box.
I worked very hard on troubleshooting this computer and I believe this should be included in my final mark.

For completion of task, I would rate myself 4 out of 4.
The task was completed without major problems or inconveniences.

For Cooperative participation in the group, I would also rate myself 4 out of 4.
During the process of completing the task, I would always put my full effort into the task assigned.

For creativity and critical thinking, I would rate myself 4 out of 4.
A main role of setting up netbooks is troubleshooting. There were no problems after a series of troubleshooting techniques.

For initiative, I would rate myself 4 out of 4.
I always used my class time effectively (as I cannot take the netbooks home to finish the task).

The second assignment was based on netbooks and who in Mackenzie should be using the new netbooks.
With much deliberation and research, my group concluded that grade elevens in language classes will benefit the most from netbook technology.

For completion of task, I would rate myself 4 out of 4.
The task was completed efficiently and accurately.

For Cooperative participation in the group, I would also rate myself 4 out of 4.
During the process of completing the task, I would always put my full effort into the task assigned.

For creativity and critical thinking, I would rate myself 3 out of 4.
Although I always put my input and I involve myself in all discussions, I am not very creative.

For initiative, I would rate myself 4 out of 4.
I always used my class time effectively and I completed all of my share in my group.

Overall, I worked realy hard on this task and I had a lot of fun completing the task.
